It’s better not to leave Christmas lights on all the time. Running them 24/7 raises your power bill, wears out bulbs faster and adds fire risk, especially with older incandescent lights. Use LED lights and a timer so they shine in the evening and switch off overnight and when you’re away.

How many Christmas lights you can string together depends on their wattage and your circuit. A 15-amp household circuit can safely handle about 1,440 watts (80% of its capacity). Divide that by one strand’s wattage, and always follow the maker’s limit on connected strands.
