Holiday season is supposed to bring a sense of festivity and joy, but sadly the same festive season is also associated with a growing number of fire related accidents. Christmas tree lights and other forms of holiday decorations are squarely blamed for starting fires. Contrary to what most people believe, Christmas tree fires and holiday decoration fires are far more common. Therefore, it makes sense that we discuss this other side of this festive season if we are to protect our family and our house from the deadly clutches of fires. Let us check out some statistics related to Christmas tree fires and holiday decoration fires – be warned, these statistics might shock you to the core –
01. Shocking Rise in Fires During Holidays

Fire related incidents tend to shoot up during the festive months, more particularly during the winter months. This is a known fact but what most people are oblivious to is the fact that it is the Christmas trees that play a major role in starting those files. Believe it or not, every year 1,170 fire related incidents are caused directly by Christmas trees in the United States alone. The result? Well, it leads to around $16.4 million in property damage, 24 injuries and 12 deaths.
A dry Christmas tree is a potential fire hazard. When left too close to the heat source or decorated with faulty lights, it can easily ignite sparks. It just needs a few seconds to transform that tiny spark into a major fire. So, be careful about that.A dry Christmas tree is a potential fire hazard. 02. Candle Fires on Key Days

We simply can’t think of Christmas without candles; these two go hand in hand. For most of us, it’s hard to picture Christmas without the soft glow of candles. Of all home decoration fires in the US, candles account for more than 45%. According to records, December is the season when candle related fires reach their peak thanks to the widespread adoption of candles in Christmas decorations. New Year’s Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas are the top three days with the most candle fires.
03. Why Are These Fires More Dangerous?

Compared to other types of house fires, Christmas tree fires and holiday decoration fires are far more destructive. Fires started by Christmas trees and holiday decorations tend to cause twice the damage caused by other usual winter holiday fire. They also cause 5 times more deaths than a typical winter holiday fire. This is a terrifying statistic that we all need to be aware of. During 2004-2008, over 260 home fires were recorded associated with Christmas trees. Decorative Christmas lights are also responsible for starting another 150 home fires per year during the same period.
